-fire agreement coming up in a few moments. first, new out of the south bay. a deadly hit-and-run in east san jose has police at this hour searching for answers. according to police, a man was hit by two vehicles after 6:00 a.m. while crossing alum rock avenue. we have bob redell on the scene this morning. he has more details on what is happening out there. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. we spoken with a local neighborhood group who does not think this was a fluke. thinks this latest fatality here at alum rock avenue is a symptom of the problems on the road. they are not surprised a person has been hit and killed. this is the third pedestrian to be hit and killed in east san jose. the ninth person when you take into account the entire city of east san jose. the man, that is all we know, was jay walking after 6:00 this morning while it was still dark out and most likely raining. he was attempting to cross alum rock and was 75 feet away from the nearest crosswalk when the car ran into him. the car did speed off and did not stop or return. the police are looking for the driver. it

at a school in san jose. nbc bay area's marianne favro has been following the story and joins us live from the st. francis cabrini school with the developments. >> reporter: the pastor here at st. francis cabrini church has resigned. we now mow more about the letter from the diocese of san jose that enabled a registered sex offender to volunteer here near kids. this is the letter signed by human resources employee at the diocese of san jose that authorized mark gurries, a registered sex offender to volunteer at st. francis cabrini and parish. and that's what he did that parents say hundreds of kids attended. they blame the letter that allowed him to volunteer. >> it's a statute that we do not agree with. what you have is a registered sex offender that was on school grounds. however, it is in the penal code, it is in the books that if you have permission from a school official, you can be on grounds. >> reporter: the diocese says a former human resources employee wrote the letter in november 2010, just six months after he was sentenced for molesting a child under 14. but the diocese wouldn'

in san jose. it happened just after 6:00 a.m. on alum rock avenue near the intersection with jackson avenue. police say the man was about 30 feet outside of the crosswalk when the car hit him and then drove off. the victim died at the scene. >> all we have on that vehicle is it is a dark-colored sedan, unknown make or model. again, we're still talking to witnesses right now. >> police say a second vehicle also hit the victim. that driver did stop and cooperated with police. the accident tied up traffic in the area and the valley transportation authority had to reroute some buses. >>> this day before thanksgiving is very busy. christien kafton is live at sfo. is it smooth sailing now? >> reporter: that's what we're hearing. we're at the virgin america ticket area. things are moving along quite nicely. flights in and out of sfo are packed full and are flying, by and large, on time. >> passenger loads are up about 3% year over year since last year. but everything is operating smoothly. >> reporter: there were problems late into last night lasting into this morning. rainy weather led to

from aaa. you can see san jose, oakland, the 370 range. san francisco, averaging $3.86. compare that to a month ago and you are looking at a decrease of roughly 70 cents. still expensive. compared to last thanksgiving, these prices are about the same. if you are driving out of town via 580, a main connector, there has been a lot of traffic in livermore at the altoro exit as shoppers head to the new outlet mall. might not be the biggest deal today as shoppers hold off for black friday but it could be an issue tomorrow night. and of course on friday, that's when the mall will be onlying. the mall actually opens tomorrow night. it will be open throughout friday. 580 could be particularly bad because of the new outlet mall. reporting live for "told in the bay." >>> not only are there travelers all over country talking to those airports, bay area no exception. travelers are experiencing some delays already, right? >> yeah, just a couple of delays. we're really starting to see traffic pick up at the airport. a lot of flights. what a day to be traveling. we've got rain, we've got crowd

, one of the suspects in a violent strings of crime in san jose will go in front of the judge for the first time. jonathan wilbanks is facing charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery. now, he and another man are accused of four robberies, a deadly attempted carjacking and a shooting that injured a police officer friday night. now, the two of them were caught on surveillance video at a 7/11 store where a man was shot and killed by the suspect. a $20,000 reward is being offered for information for the man who is still out there on the loose. >>> people in palo alto are being warned about two different scams involving energy and water services. the first one involves someone claiming to be from a gas company they claim a product they are selling lowers your bill. the city says the scammers often mention pg&e. that's not palo alto's utility company. the other scam involves a fake water leak insurance company and that will offer insurance against high water bills, they claim. >>> sal, this is your day. i mean, it's gonna be a busy day. >> i was trying to look at the chp list

today in san jose believed to be involved in a violent crime spree. jonathan wilbanks was arrested last friday an officer suffered minor injuries in a shootout. wilbanks and another suspect still on the loose are suspected of killing a 22-year-old during an attempted carjacking. wilbanks is being held without bail. $20,000 reward offered for the capture of his accomplice. >>> in a few hours ken salazar will visit an oyster farm. next week he is expected to announce a decision on whether to allow the company to continue operating there. the lease which allows the company to grow and harvest oysters is set to expire the end of the minute. park service claims the farm is harming the environment and wants it closed. review in august found the park services environmental review lacked strong scientific support. >>> this morning union members are returning to work at the port of oakland following a 24 hour strike. picketers blocked trucks most of the day yesterday. the one-day strike was over stalled contract talks. last night both sides agreed to return to the negotiating table. the port say

, san jose police need help tracking the driver who hit a pedestrian and took off about 6:00 this morning. emergency responders found the body at jackson and alum rock the man had been hit by two vehicles. amy hollyfield is at the scene. >> reporter: police on the lookout asking for you to be too of a dark colored sedan with damage to the front. san jose police say the man was jaywalking in the dark, it was 6:00 in the morning, probably in the rain when he was hit. they don't know if the driver realized that he or she hit a person. >> very serious offense. again, there's always an explanation for what might or might not have happened. again, with the conditions, dark, low lighting, i'm not sure what the victim was wearing, those are things that we look at when we are investigating. >> reporter: that first car did leave the scene. then the man was hit a second time, this time by an suv. that driver is cooperating with police. this happened on alum rock avenue before jackson avenue, in front of the carl's jr. that had just opened. >> i'm scared, i feel like, i don't know, re

. in fact, nearly half a dozen broke in san jose and two in redwood city. one of the redwood city pipes flooded a couple of homes near brewster and warren overnight. three hours later another line burst near allerton and standish. no property damage there. but of the five pipes that burst around san jose, the biggest was a 12" pipe at story road and lyndale. about two dozen customers lost water service during the fix but there was no flood damage. >>> israel is intensifying its attacks on the gaza strip despite talk of a truce. right now gaza is seeing the biggest explosions since the fighting started last week. cbs reporter danielle nottingham with the latest developments. >>> reporter: a shaken woman walked away from her building outside tel aviv after hamas rocket attack. in southern israel, a rocket fired from gaza killed an 18- year-old soldier. it's the fourth death in israel and the first military casualty after nearly a week of violence. at least 130 people have been killed in gaza, half of them civilians. the international community is stepping up efforts to stop the fighting.
